Shapes of Worship

November 30th, 2009 by admin received 5 Comments »

A lot of times people will say to me “Man, I don’t really like to worship.” And I respond with “What do you mean you don’t like to worship?!” then I get “Well, I don’t like to sing..” Then I realized how confused they were. They thought that singing was the only form they could participate in. Before I go on I must say that I believe if we are to show up to church, then we are to participate in worship in song. I have a hard time seeing Heaven and only the people who feel like singing and worshiping do that. In a church service I believe, unless you are not a believer, that you should be trying to engage with God…..even if you don’t like to sing or aren’t the best singer. God loves our worship no matter what the sound. As long as it is authentic and true.

Now! back to where i was going. There are tons of ways to worship God and I am interested in things everyone else does. Write a comment below and take a look together at some different ways to worship our King.

Fickle Lovers

one love
I was driving down I-40 and noticed a sticker on a guy’s car that said “One Love”…and thats when it started..

I was on my way home and the whole way there thought of that..one love. What really is “one love”? I mean, I love chocolate, I love ice cream, I love my wife (she’s hot), I love music…..but what is one love? I know some of those things probably don’t matter that I mentioned but my wife matters…I love my friends….

Then I thought of Jesus. Here is a great example of one love to me. Not just for a certain few people but for ALL people. Jesus surrendered to God and did what he wanted him to do. One Love to God = no discrimination to all, acceptance of all, a helping of all, a hurting for all, a rejoicing with all. But we tend to have a love that = “they look cool to hang out with”, “someone else will help them”, “I have enough to worry about”, “but their smelly”. Thats not one love. One love, I believe, is brought about by understanding who God really is. God is the one who gave his one and only son, Jesus, up to be a living sacrifice for me and you. We have become fickle lovers of people and full-time lovers of our own comfort and self. Are you really willing to give up your comfort to love another? What about that money you were saving up but saw a guy on the side of the road who had nothing and decided to pass him up for what you were getting for yourself (that was me this day). How do we tear down the walls? How do we establish this “One Love”? Well.. I don’t know fully yet…..

But being like Christ is a start….

God Beats Sex, Drugs and Rock n Roll

This is an incredible story! If you don’t know who Brian “Head” Welch is, he was the bass player for the band Korn. I use to listen to some of their music when I played football and after REALLY listening to lyrics was like “whoa….this stuff is not for me”. Watch and listen to how God broke Brian and remember that we serve a God who can take ANYONE and change their life, make them new, and free them from whatever sin or stronghold they are walking through.

Leather Pants Are Winning

So…..I recently attended the U2 concert and ,can I say, it was the best concert I have ever been to in my LIFE! The excitement and energy was unbelievable! I’m not a real fan of the Black Eyed Peas but they put on a show and I was so engaged that I started dancing all over the place! ha! While standing in line people kept talking about how excited they were to get in the door. Countless people including myself were like ” I can’t believe I’m here seeing U2 right now! UNBELIEVABLE!!!”.

At the end of the concert I got in my car and was all jacked up. I mean, these people all came here expecting great things to happen. I’m pretty sure the majority of them didn’t show up late and just stand there and be like “Cool, now i can check that off my list.” THEY WERE EXCITED! Why isn’t it like that at church? Why can’t we be that excited about showing up every Saturday or Sunday? Why can’t we show up expecting something amazing to happen? See, U2 is great. But nothing is greater than an encounter with Christ! He has the biggest show of all! The stars, clouds, mountains, animals, and everything on earth are his staging. His voice comes in thunder and rushing winds. He needs no encore because he never leaves.

The leather pants are winning. Although some are getting it in the church, hundreds of thousands are still more excited about a band than the Creator of “the band” and all things on this earth. Makes me sad, but stirs me to lead strong and encourage others to worship in what ever capacity that may be (song, serving, etc.) with EVERYTHING they have. Don’t get me wrong, I love U2. But I want my excitement to be about God. I want to forever say ” I can’t believe I’m here seeing God right now! UNBELIEVABLE!!!”.
