“Please invite someone to church this month”

Was it rude?no

Was it quirky?no

Just simple and with urgency. I take the word “please” as a sincere care for those who are lost. It says “someone” not saying it has to be some big drawn out thing but a simple invitation as you run in to someone. Don’t get me wrong. I DO believe that if you have a relationship with a person they are more apt to go. but that isn’t always the case. I just invite anyone I come into contact to and have a conversation with.

It seems crazy not to! I mean we truly hold the key to freedom of sin, shame, and a life of eternal damnation! They can be cleansed of sin and made whole again by the the choice we make to invite them to the rest of their life. That is great news! Uncontainable news! Or is it?

One bumper sticker saying one simple
thing. “Please invite someone to church this month”.

I may not know you but I would love see you at my church. It’s a great place and I believe you can find freedom, hope, friendship, encouragement, grace, and love there in so many ways. I only ask that you be open.

Your turn.

What do you do when things don’t happen the way you want them to?

For me, most times I get upset and pout and I feel like I end up blaming something or someone for my misfortune. For instance, I was out of town and really ready to get back home and got on a plane for home when the pilot says ” We are going to have to deplane to fix a problem with the air conditioner”. Even though it was for our benefit I was mad! Not only had I gotten comfy on the plane but now I must deplane AND I won’t be arriving when I wanted to. Not cool.

Funny how I totally didn’t think of how beneficial being able to be cool and comfortable on the flight would be. Or how (even though it wasn’t) there could have been something malfunctioning there and triggered something in the plane elsewhere that could have made our plane not make it to our final destination.I went straight to how it will set me back and how its wasn’t what I planned. I know that is such a diva thing but let’s get serious.

Whose plan are you going after? How are you responding when things don’t go the way you want them to? God’s plan or yours?

Jeremiah 29:11-13 (New International Version)

11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. 12 Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. 13 You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.

I’m not kidding! I’m in Houston Texas and not really (at all) familiar with the roads. Also I am staying at someone’s home here and lets just say its not the simplest place to get to (or is it?). So I’m driving there from my friend Zach’s house and using my handy-dandy iPhone maps to get there when all of a sudden…BOOM….my phone dies. Well me being the MAN I am decide that I don’t need an “iMap” to get home…I am my own “guyMap”….(dumb idea). I was WAAAYYY off and had no idea where I was or how I got there. All I knew is that I was lost and I needed help. I searched a few places and none had a charger for the car nor a charger for the 3GS. I soon found a Wal-Mart, got a charger, and mapped my way there. Turns out I was 30 minutes out of the way. Not to even add in the hour and a half I had been looking for it myself.

It’s funny how similar that story is to life. Somewhere down the road we seem to think that we have all the answers we need in ourselves. I don’t know what causes it but we definitely just DO. But then things don’t seem to look like they need to be and so we try different things to make it work. The hard part is that we never seem to find our way. I think thats why God gave us a roadmap. The Bible and our relationship with Christ can lead us through the hardest times in life. There may be some hard roads but still there is a path to get us through it. And i like how its not just one straight shot, but steps. Just like Mapquest or whatever you use goes one step at a time as for us to not get ahead of ourselves.

All this to say USE YOUR ROADMAP! ha! We can’t do it alone. Psalms 119:105 says ” Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path.” Remember he is the light and without Him its like driving with no headlights in the woods. We need that light.

Well its been snowing like crazy around our parts and it’s had me thinking of this song Audrey Assad wrote. Check it out. Great description of my Savior and absolutely moving.
